Former Jacksonville State golfer Danny Willett is playing in the 92nd PGA Championship this weekend at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.

Invites for the PGA go to the World's top 100 and Willett is currently ranked 85th.

“It has been a dream of mine ever since I started out playing golf as a kid to get to tee up in a Major and I'm going to do it at last,” Willett told Shaun Custis of The Sun newspaper.

“The key is to try and treat it like any other tournament, but that is going to be hard because deep down you know it's different,” said Willett. “If you win or finish top ten it can take your career to a new level which is what I'm looking to do.”

Willett played two seasons for the Gamecocks in 2006-07 and claimed the 2007 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship Individual title. He holds the school's record with a 71.96 career stroke average, playing in 72 rounds at Jax State.

The 21-year-old plays out of Rotherham Golf Club, near his home town of Sheffield, England. He turned pro in May 2008 playing off a handicap of +5 and as the R&A's No.1 World Ranked Amateur, a title which he had held for the previous 12 weeks.

In early 2008 he received two invites to play on the European Tour as an amateur, in which he finished T19th at the Andalucia Open and took the Leading Amateur Trophy at the Spanish Open, finishing T10th.

He made his professional debut at The Celtic Manor Wales Open in May 2008, finishing in 61st place after making the cut on the mark, chipping in for an eagle on his 36th hole.

He played his seven invites as an affiliate member of the tour that season, but was unable to win enough money to prevent a trip to the European Tour Qualifying School.

Finishing fourth overall, he came through all 14 rounds of the Qualifying Stages accompanied by his new and highly experienced caddy, Malcolm Mason. This set him up for his rookie season on the European Tour and both he and his coach, Graham Walker.
