Jax State Football Ranked No. 17 in Preseason Poll

Jacksonville State is ranked No. 17 in the seventh annual preseason AnyGivenSaturday.com Football Championship Subdivision Poll, which was released today.

The Gamecocks, which finished the season with the best record in the Ohio Valley Conference with an 8-3 record and a 6-1 conference mark, won the final four games of the 2009 season.

Jax State also has been ranked for 15 straight weeks in the Top 25 polls, which is the longest such stretch in the school's Division I history.

Jacksonville State was one of two Ohio Valley Conference teams ranked in the poll, joining Eastern Illinois, who was ranked No. 21. Eastern Kentucky was the only other OVC team to receive votes in the poll.

The two other major FCS Top 25 polls will be released later this summer. Those polls are the Sports Network media poll and the FCS Coaches Poll.

AGS is the world's largest online community devoted to all of the FCS. The AGS Poll was created in 2004 to give distinguished members of the AGS community a place to voice their opinion, vote for the top 25 FCS programs in the nation, and provide the media and coaches of FCS a valuable resource to gauge general sentiment. In order to ensure that the poll is accurate and fair, a committee of AGS veteran members has established guidelines for voter eligibility and accountability.

The AGS Poll will be announced weekly throughout the season on Mondays and a final poll will be announced shortly after the National Championship game.
