MOREHEAD, Ky. – Daniel Adamson hit four home runs, including two grand slams, to lead Jacksonville State to an Ohio Valley Conference double-header sweep at Morehead State.

In the opener, Adamson hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam home run in the top of the 10th inning, to lead Jacksonville State to a 10-7 win, then he hit an inside-the-park home run and a grand slam as JSU cruised to a 17-0 win in the second game.

The Gamecocks improve to 28-24 overall and 14-8 in the OVC, while Morehead State is 24-24-1 and 6-11-1 in the conference. Jax State moved into second place with a .636 winning percentage, just behind Tennessee Tech's .684 total.

In the opener, JSU's Todd Hornsby (4-1) scattered seven hits over 3 1/3 innings on the mound to earn the win. Josh Schneider gave up seven runs in two innings of relief to suffer the loss.

The Gamecocks trailed 5-3 entering the ninth inning, but Sam Eberle hit a two-run home run to left field to tie the game at 5-5.

Bert Smith led off the tenth after being hit by a pitch and Steven Leach followed with an infield single. Blake Seguin had a one-out single to right field to load the bases, before Adamson hit the first pitch he saw deep over the left field wall to give the Gamecocks the lead.

Kyle Bluestein then hit the first pitch he saw over the right field fence as the Gamecocks built a 10-5 lead, before the Eagles scored a pair of runs with two outs for the final margin.

Morehead State took a 1-0 lead after Drew Lee hit a solo home run in the first inning and Daniel Pugh had a RBI single in the second to give MSU a 2-0 lead.

Jax State scored its first run of the game after Eberle hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 2-1, but the Eagles added a run in the fifth on a RBI by Andrew Deeds to build a 3-1 lead.

The Gamecocks tied the game in the sixth inning after Leach walked and Adamson followed with a two-out, two-run home run to left field to tie the game at 3-3.

Morehead State built a two run lead in the bottom of the eighth inning after Pugh and Bottoms each drove in a run to give the Eagles a 5-3 lead, before Eberle's game-tying home run in the ninth inning.

Adamson finished 3-for-5 and tied his career-high with six RBI, while Leach and Eberle each added a pair of hits. It was the third straight 3-hit game for the former Clay-Chalkville High School product. Bottoms led the Eagles with four hits, while Pugh and Lee each had two hits for Morehead State.

In the second game, Jax State tied a school Division I record with seven home runs and jumped out to an early lead after scoring eight runs in the first inning enroute to an 17-0 win over the Eagles.

The Gamecocks led off with four straight hits, then Bluestein hit a two-run home run as JSU built a 5-0 lead. Cal Lambert then followed with a two-out solo home run, followed by a triple by Seguin and a double by Todd Cunningham to give JSU the early lead.

Bluestein the hit his third consecutive home run with a solo shot in the second inning to give the Gamecocks a 9-0 lead, before Lambert hit his second home run of the game to lead off the third inning for a 10-0 advantage.

Adamson hit a ball to the left field corner and was able to score on an inside-the-park home run, becoming the first Gamecock to accomplish the feat since Nick Cleckler against Austin Peay on March 26, 2007, as JSU took an 11-0 lead.

Seguin gave JSU a 12-0 lead on a RBI single in the sixth, but the Gamecocks tacked on five more runs in the seventh inning, thanks to the second grand slam of the afternoon by Admason and Eberle followed with his third homer of the day for the final margin.

Austin Lucas (5-0) tossed six solid innings, allowed just four hits to earn the win for the Gamecocks. Matthew Robertson (1-5) gave up six runs in just 2/3 of an inning to suffer the loss.

Smith went 4-for-5, while Lambert and Seguin had three hits each and Cunningham, Bluestein, Edge, Adamson each had two hits to lead the Gamecocks' 21-hit attack. Ashbrook had two hits of Morehead State's four hits in the game.

The two teams will play the final regular-season game on Saturday. Game time is set for 12 noon at Allen Field as the Gamecock go for the three-game sweep.
