Gamecock Basketball Adds Cook To Signing Class

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team has added Mississippi prep star Nick Cook to its 2010-11 roster, head coach James Green announced on Wednesday.

Cook, a 6-foot-5 player from Hattiesburg High School in Hattiesburg, Miss., signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Gamecocks earlier in the week, making him the fourth signee in the late period for Green. Cook joins prep signees Franki Baugher and Brian Williams and junior college guard Leke Lewu as the newest members of the Gamecock program.

“We are excited to welcome Nick to our basketball family,” Green said. “We think he possesses the characteristics that we look for in our student-athletes, and adding him to our freshman class represents a strong foundation for Jacksonville State basketball.”

Cook stood out as a senior for the Tigers as a senior in 2009-10. He led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds per game, while also blocking a team-best two shots per contest. He was a first team all-district player and was also ranked the No. 13 senior in the state of Mississippi by Scout.com.

He scored in double figures in all but one game as a senior, including a season-high 31 points against Petal High School on Nov. 19, a game in which he also grabbed 12 boards.
