Troy Rallies for 13-11 Win Over Jax State

TROY – Ryan Ditthardt had three hits and drove in four runs to lead Troy to a 13-11 win over Jacksonville State at Riddle-Pace Field on Wednesday.

Chase Whitley (5-2) recorded the final six outs to earn the win for the Trojans, while Bill Henke (2-1) gave up two runs in 2/3 of an inning to suffer the loss for the Gamecocks.

The Trojans (24-20) took advantage of nine walks and a pair of hit by pitch as the Gamecocks used seven pitchers in the game.

Troy took a 4-0 lead in the third inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double by Todd McRae, but the Gamecocks battled back to take the lead in the fourth.

Jax State plated seven runs on five hits as Steven Leach and Kyle Bluestein each drove in a run, Daniel Adamson had a two-RBI double and Andrew Edge hit his first career triple to score three more runs as the Gamecocks took a 7-4 lead.

The Trojans cut the lead to 7-5 in the fourth inning on an Adam Bryant solo home run, but the Gamecocks pushed two more runs across in the fifth.

Todd Cunningham drove in two runs on a single up the middle as the Gamecocks built a 9-5 lead. Cunningham, who tied the Ohio Valley Conference career triples record with 16 earlier in the game, finished with three hits to lead the Gamecocks.

Ditthardt hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 9-7, before Kyle Bluestein scored on a Troy error in the sixth inning to make the score 10-7.

Troy scored four runs in the seventh inning to take an 11-10 lead after Miles Hoyle drove in three runs with a double and Adam Bryant was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to give the Trojans the lead.

Jake Sharrock then hit his second home run of the season to lead off the eighth inning to tie the game at 11-11, but the Trojans scored the final two runs in the home half of the inning for the final margin after Ditthard hit a double to center.

Andrew Edge, Sharrock and Adamson each added two hits to go along with Cunningham's three hits as the Gamecocks finished with 12 in the game.

Jacksonville State returns to action with a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series against Eastern Illinois this weekend. Saturday's double-header is scheduled for 1 p.m., while Sunday's game will also start at 1 p.m.
