BRENTWOOD, Tenn. –
Jacksonville State sprinter Elizabeth Bond was selected the Ohio Valley Conference Track and Field Co-Freshman Athlete of the Year announced by the league office on Friday.

The Marietta, Ga., native became the first ever JSU track and field athlete to qualify for a national competition when she ran a career and season-best 55.80 in the 400-meter dash at the Ole Miss Invitational on April 10. The time qualified her for the USA Track and Field Junior National Championships on June 23-27 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bond posted a season-best 25.24 in the 200-meter dash and was a member of the 4 x 400-meter relay that clocked a JSU record 3:48.53 at the Auburn Invitational on April 17.

The OVC named her the Female Athlete of the Week following her performance at the JSU Gem of the Hills Invitational on April 3. She won the 400-meter dash, clocking a 56.30, just missing the meet record of 55.45 and also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a 25.54.

Southeast Missouri State's Jerika Lewis shares the honor with Bond.

The Gamecocks begin competition at the 2010 OVC Track and Field Championships on Friday in Nashville, Tenn.
