JSU Finishes Third at 2010 OVC Golf Championship

DICKSON, Tenn. – Jacksonville State shot a total of 886 to finish third at the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship, played at the par-72, 6,858 yard Greystone Golf Club.

Murray State, which led from start to finish, posted a 54-hole total of 865 to win the title, while Morehead State finished just ahead of the Gamecocks with a total of 883. Jax State was third, followed by Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee State, who both tied for fourth with an 889, Tennessee Tech (890), Austin Peay (894), UT Martin (897) and Eastern Illinois (912).

Andrew Schonbaum led the Gamecocks and finished fifth with a 218, while Gonzalo Berlin and Tom Robson both shot a 221 to tie for ninth place. Nathan Bennett and Daniel Glidewell each tied for 34th with a three-day total of 229. Schonbaum was named to the OVC All-Tournament squad after posting his top 5 finish.

Murray State's Nick Newcomb won the individual title with a 1-under 215, just ahead of teammate Jared Wolfe's total of 216. Newcomb was named the OVC Player of the Year, while Murray State head coach Eddie Hunt garnered Coach of the Year honors.
