JSU Soccer Defeats Kennesaw State

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State scored a first half goal and made it hold up for a 1-0 win over defending Atlantic Sun Conference champion Kennesaw State on Saturday at the JSU Soccer Field.

Nathalee Lariviere scored off a pass from Chelsea Pelletier to give the Gamecocks a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute.

"Coming off of two ties against Middle Tennessee and Lipscomb in Murfreesboro, Tenn., we have concentrated on our offensive movement and our ability to score goals and it paid off,” said JSU Head Coach Julie Davis Carlson. "This is a very respectable result for our team. Our team gained quality experience and confidence from this match. Our team continues to improve each day."

The Gamecocks are 2-0-4 this spring and have not yielded a goal through six games.

"Lariviere did a fantastic job finishing the ball in the far post past the Kennesaw goalkeeper and the last KSU defender,” Carlson Added. “Pelletier and Lindsay Boehmler made a lot happen from the right flank that allowed for Lariviere's scoring opportunity. I am extremely proud of our team's progress in many ways."

Katelyn Geddings and Ali Koenig split the game in goal, recording three saves apiece on the afternoon.

Jacksonville State wraps up the spring against the University of Alabama on Saturday at 5 p.m.
