JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team clinched at least a tie for the Ohio Valley Conference regular season title with a 5-2 win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday at the JSU Tennis Courts.

The Gamecocks won their sixth straight match to move to 12-8 overall and 8-0 in the OVC. The Colonels fell to 11-15 and 5-4 in league play.

JSU rallied to win at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to earn the doubles point. Viviane Marani and Martina Dessbesell came from 3-0 down to earn an 8-3 win against Jessica Albuquerque and Anais Hamel at No. 1. Ralphlaela Lima and Kimberly Ferris clinched the doubles point with a 9-7 come from behind win over Anouk Faure and Alyze Pagal at No. 2.

The Gamecocks captured four of the six singles matches to close out the match. Marani won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 over Myriem Mhirit and Dessbesell beat Albuquerque, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. Rafaela Wenzel defeated Hamel 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 and Juliana Renesto cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Esmira Gheisary at No. 6.

Jacksonville State hosts Morehead State to wrap up the 2010 regular season on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the JSU Tennis Courts.
