Hoke Smashes JSU Javelin Record At Saturday’s Gem Of The Hills

JACKSONVILLE –
Andrea Hoke's javelin throw of 46.28 meters broke the Jacksonville State and Gem of the Hills records on Saturday at the annual Gem of the Hills Invitational at the JSU Track and Field Complex.

Hoke's distance ranks second on the Ohio Valley Conference top 10 list while claming first place overall. Hoke also finished fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.08 meters and fourth in the shot put with a distance of 11.38 meters, both rank ninth in the OVC.

Elizabeth Bond won the 400-meter dash, clocking an OVC best 56.30, and also turned in a fourth place finish in the 200-meter dash with an OVC fifth best time of 25.54. Laveeta Oliver ran a 25.58 to finish fifth and rank sixth in the OVC.

Latasha Sturkie claimed first place in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking an OVC third best time of 1:05.58. Latasha Sturkie also ran a 15.36 to finish second in the 100-meter hurdles.

Ericka Stam claimed the fourth gold medal for JSU on the day, running a 11:49.22 in the 3000-meter Steeplechase. Stam's time ranks second in the OVC and was not far off the JSU record of 11:18.57.

Christina Tupper took over second place in the OVC and took home second place with a distance of 11.80 meters in the triple jump.

Amber Wiley finished second in the pole vault with a height of 3.58 meters, ranking second in the OVC

Page Harris finished eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.33 meters, placing her in fifth on the OVC list. Harris placed fifth and moved into fifth in the OVC with a jump of 5.44 meters in the long jump.

Freshman Donnell Nocero's jump of 1.65 meters in the high jump was good enough four fourth place and was the second best high jump in the OVC.

Ashley Stovall turned in time of 18:36.30 in the 5000-meter run to take fourth. Stovall's time ranks fifth in the OVC and was not too far off the JSU record of 18:04.12.

The Gamecocks 4x400-meter relay team of Bond, Latasha Sturkie, Natasha Sturkie and Tasheilra Jones ran their way to a second place finish with a time of 3:54.31.

Kennesaw State claimed the women's title followed by Georgia State JSU, Tennessee Tech, Columbus State, Birmingham-Southern, Alabama-Huntsville, Stillman, Shorter and Emory. Chattahoochee Tech, Alabama A&M, Clark Atlanta, West Alabama, Bevill State, North Georgia, Miles and Oglethorpe rounded out the 18-team field.

Jacksonville State return to action at the Ole Miss Invitational on Saturday in Oxford, Miss.
