CHARLESTON, Ill. – Jacksonville State won the doubles point and then won five of six singles matches to earn a 6-1 Ohio Valley Conference win over Eastern Illinois on Friday at Rex Darling Courts.

The Gamecocks improved to 8-9 overall and 4-1 in the OVC while the Panthers fell to 3-13 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

The Gamecocks won two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Gustavo Holz and Nenad Marcec upended Vance Davis and Matyas Hilgert 8-5 at No. 2 and Brian Kenyon and Igor Santos teamed up to defeat Jamie Firth and Michael Sperry, 8-2 at No. 3.

Sunberg downed Warren Race 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 at No 2 while Marcec beat Firth 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. Duke downed Hilgert, 4-6, 7-5, 10-6 at No. 4 and Holz defeated Justin Haag, 6-3, 7-6 at No. 5. Santos earned the final point of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Sperry.

Jacksonville State hosts Mercer University at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the JSU Tennis Courts.
