JSU Track and Field Set To Host Gem Of The Hills Saturday

JACKSONVILLE –
Jacksonville State will welcome the second largest field of athletes for the 2010 Gem of the Hills Invitational this Saturday at the JSU Track and Field Complex.

All totaled 527 athletes will represent 17 colleges and universities, track clubs and unattached individuals. The total number of athletes is second only to the 2008 total of 534.

The festivities start a 9:45 a.m. with the honoring of JSU seniors Cle'Asha Burks (Hoover, Ala.), Danielle Florey (Newport Richey, Fla.) Nolinda Garner (Town Creek, Ala.), Tasheilra Jones (Wildwood, Fla.), Takisha Parham (Powder Springs, Ga.), Kandis Thomas (Hoover, Ala.), and Christina Tupper (Seattle, Wash.).

Field events will start at 10 a.m. and the track events are set for 11 a.m. JSU's Jaxpan/Carribean Chrome band will perform a three-hour concert during the day's events.

The field of 17 colleges and universities include: Alabama A&M, Bevill State, Birmingham-Southern, Chattahoochee Tech, Clark Atlanta, Columbus State, Emory, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Miles College North Georgia, Oglethorpe, Shorter, Tennessee Tech, Alabama Huntsville, West Alabama, and William Penn.

Admission to the Gem of the Hills Invitational is free.
