MURRAY, Ky. – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team begin a three-match Ohio Valley Conference road swing with a 4-3 win over Murray State on Thursday at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts.

Jax State improved to 4-0 in conference play while moving to 8-8 overall. The Eagles fell to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in the OVC.

The Gamecocks staked to a 1-0 lead after winning two-of-three doubles matches to earn the doubles points. Viviane Marani and Martin Dessbesell claimed an 8-6 victory over Lindsey Wiseman and Angela McGahee at No. 1 and Kristen Fuller and Rafaela Wenzel beat Ashley Canty and Alexis Webb 8-3 at No 3.

Marani, Dessbesell and Ralphaela Lima earned singles wins to clinch the win for JSU. Marani defeated McGahee, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 1 and Dessbesell cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win over Webb at No. 2. Lima closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Dina Obukhova at No. 6.

Jacksonville State continues the road trip on Friday against OVC foe Eastern Illinois at 10 a.m. in Charleston, Ill.
