BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State's Hunter Rivers has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Rivers, a product of West Morgan High School, allowed just two hits and had a career-high six strikeouts in earning his second straight win of the season on Saturday against Miami (Ohio).

The freshman faced just two batters above the minimum and the two hits he allowed were both singles. He threw only 81 pitches and he got seven ground outs and eight fly outs to go along with his six strikeouts.

The opponents hit just .087 against the right-hander as he lowered his ERA 4.01 points after the outing.

Jacksonville State returns to the diamond on Tuesday against in-state rival Troy. Former Major League All-Star and Gamecock baseball alum Todd Jones will be throwing out the first pitch. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field.
