FINAL STATS
JACKSONVILLE –
Austin Lucas allowed just one hit in five innings on the mound as Jacksonville State claimed a 2-0 win over Miami (Ohio) to win the series in a rain shortened game on Sunday.
The game was called after a two hour rain delay in the bottom of the fifth inning, with the Gamecocks holding the lead.
Lucas (1-0) had a pair of strikeouts and retired the final nine batters to earn his first win of the year. Mac Thoreson (1-1) gave up both runs and four hits to suffer his first loss of the season for the Redhawks.
Jake Sharrock and
Blake Seguin each singled to lead off the bottom of the third inning, before
Todd Cunningham loaded the bases with a walk.
Bert Smith followed with a grounder to third, but the throw was wide and Sharrock scored to give the Gamecocks the lead.
Seguin then came around to score as the Redhawks turned a double play to give Jax State the lead for good.
Andrew Edge,
Steven Leach, Sharrock and Seguin each finished with a hit to lead the Gamecocks.
Jordan Jankowski got the only hit for the Redhawks, which was a single in the second inning.
Jacksonville State returns to the diamond on Tuesday against in-state rival Troy. Former Major League All-Star and Gamecock baseball alum Todd Jones will be throwing out the first pitch. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field.
