JACKSONVILLE – Andrew Edge and Sam Eberle each drove in four runs to lead Jacksonville State to a 14-8 win over Miami (Ohio) in the first game of Saturday's double-header, while the Redhawks rallied for a 7-6 win in the second game.

In the opener, freshman Hunter Rivers (3-1) scattered two hits and had a career-high six strikeouts in seven solid innings on the mound to earn his third win of the season. Tyler Melling (1-2) gave up 12 runs in 4 2/3 innings to suffer the loss for the Redhawks.

The Gamecocks jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by a grand slam home run by Andrew Edge, and then scored four more runs in the third inning to extend the lead.

Jake Sharrock, Todd Cunninham and Bert Smith each drove in a run during the third, while Steven Leach scored on a balk as the Gamecocks built a 9-0 lead.

Eberle then slugged a three-run home run in the fifth inning to push the lead to 12-0, before Cunningham and Sharrock each drove in a run in the sixth to give the Gamecocks a 14-0 lead.

Miami scored eight runs off of a pair of Gamecock relievers, taking advantage of four wild pitches and a pair of walks, while only getting four hits for the final margin.

Cunningham led the Gamecocks with four hits, while Eberle followed with three hits. Daniel Adamson, Smith, Edge, and Leach each had a pair of hits as JSU finished with 17 in the game.

In the second game, the Redhawks scored all seven runs in the sixth inning, to erase a 6-0 deficit to claim the win. Matt Rosinski (2-0) had three strikeouts in two solid innings on the mound to earn the win. JSU's Alex Jones (0-2) gave up one run and three hits in 3 2/3 innings of relief, but got stuck with the loss.

Jax State took a 1-0 lead in the second on a RBI single by Blake Seguin, and added a run in the third on a RBI double by Bluestein to build a 2-0 advantage.

The Gamecocks pushed across four runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by Kyle Bluestein, to take a 6-0 lead.

The Redhawks then scored all seven runs in the sixth inning after sending 13 batters to plate and recording seven hits, for the final margin. Adam Weisenburger, Brad Gschwind and Ryan Kaup each had a pair of RBI during the inning.

Seguin, Smith, Eberle and Bluestein each finished with a pair of hits for the Gamecocks, while Bluestein had three RBI and Seguin added two.

The two teams will play the rubber game of the three-game series on Sunday. Game time is set for 12 noon at Rudy Abbott Field.
