LIMESTONE SPRINGS – Jacksonville State shot the low round of the day and rallied from nine shots back to claim the team championship at the Samford Women's Intercollegiate, played at the par-72, 5,880 yard Limestone Springs Golf Course on Tuesday.
The Gamecocks trailed South Alabama by nine shots entering the final round, but posted a 295 to finish with a 54-hole total score of 904. South Alabama shot a 310 on Tuesday and tied for second with host Samford with a total of 910. Louisiana-Monroe was fourth with a 917 and UAB finished fifth with a 932.
It marks the best finish for the Gamecocks this season and the second straight year Jax State claimed the Samford Intercollegiate Championship.
Ashley Cox led the Gamecocks after shooting a 2-under par 70 on Tuesday to finish with a total of 219 to finish third, her best finish of the season. Lucia Fernandez also shot under-par during the final round, shooting a 1-under 71, to post a three round total of 225 to tie for eight place.
Laura Cutler tied for 10th place after turning in a 227, while Luz Armijo Fernandez scored a 234 to tie for 22nd place and
Ornella Arrizon shot a 238 to tie for 27th place.
Jacksonville State returns to the course March 22-23 at the UNC Lady Seahawk Classic, hosted at the Riverlanding Golf Course in Wallace, NC.
