JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State won five singles matches coupled with the doubles point to earn a 6-1 win over Austin Peay on Saturday at the JSU Tennis Courts.

The Gamecocks improved to 4-6 overall and to 1-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference while Austin Peay fell to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the OVC.

JSU swept the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Axel Sunberg and Chris Duke won 8-2 over Henreque Norbiato and Sean Bailey at No 1 doubles. Gustavo Holz and Nenad Marcec teamed up to defeat Amar Subasic and Renan Bezerra, 9-8 (8-6) at No. 2 and Igor Santos and Brian Kenyon defeated Lenardo Locatelli and John Storie, 8-4 at No. 3.

Sunberg beat Locatelli 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 and Santos won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 to give JSU a 3-0 lead. Marcec gave JSU a 4-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Bezerra at No. 4 singles. Chris Duke upended Subasic 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5 and Kenyon won 7-5, 6-7 and 10-6 in a super tiebreaker at No .1.

Jacksonville State hosts Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Sunday at 11 a.m.
