JSU Women Fall Short In OVC Tourney Bid

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. –
Tennessee Tech had four players score in double figures to hand Jacksonville State a 77-61 Ohio Valley Conference loss at the Eblen Center on Saturday.

The loss ended JSU's bid for a third straight OVC Tournament berth and wraps up the season with a 9-20 overall record and 6-12 in OVC play. Tennessee Tech assured itself of a tournament berth while improving to 14-15 and 8-10 in league play.

Brittany Wiley led the Gamecocks with 21 points, two shy of her career-high of 23 and moved her season average above 10 points for the first time this season. Wiley also led JSU with six rebounds. Freshman Karisma Boykin added 13 points as the only other JSU player in double figures.

Tacarra Hayes had 18 points to lead Tech that included going 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Rachael Glidden scored 14 points followed by Kylie cook with 13 points, three three-pointers. Tiara Hopper added 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

The Eagles shot 41 percent on the afternoon while JSU finished shooting 37.5 percent. TTU used an 11-4 run to close the first half with a 41-30 lead at intermission.

JSU was 15-of-18 from the free thrown line for 83.3 percent, blocked five shots and only committed a season-low 10 turnovers.

Tennessee Tech outrebounded JSU 51-27 and 20 of its 51 rebounds were on the offensive end.
