Oliver, Bond Qualify For OVC Indoor Event Finals

OVC Indoor Day One Results

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
Jacksonville State's Laveeta Oliver qualified for the finals in two events and Elizabeth Bond qualified in one event on day one of the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday.

Oliver won her heat in the 55-meter dash with a 7.01 to break her own JSU record of 7.07 in the 55-meter dash. She later clocked a school record 24.64 to win her heat in the 200-meter dash breaking Eboni Mathews' record of 24.88 set on Feb. 26, 2005.

Bond qualified in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.05, finishing third in her heat.

JSU's distance medley relay team of Ericka Stam, Latasha Sturkie, Adonique Smith and Kailey Jensen finished fifth with a 12:42.51.

Ashley Stovall finished sixth with an 18:43.95 in the 5000-meter run. Takisha Parham placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 18-feet, 7 ½ inches and Donnell Nocero was sixth in the high jump with a height of five-feet, 2 ½ inches.

The Gamecocks are in seventh place after the first daywith 16 points. Defending champion Eastern Illinois leads with 40 points followed by Southeastern Missouri, Tennessee Tech, Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee State, and Austin Peay.

The 2010 OVC Indoor Track and Field Championships conclude on Saturday at the Gentry Center on the campus of Tennessee State University.
