JSU Women’s Soccer Signs Four For 2010

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State Head Women's Soccer Coach Julie Davis Carlson announced on Monday that Amy Meehan and Katelyn Hartrampf of Kennesaw, Ga., Alison Gonzalez of Roswell, Ga., and Francesca Fitzgerald of Harvest, Ala., have signed national letters of intent to play for the Gamecocks in 2010.

“I am delighted to add these talented players to our program,” Carlson said. “They will bring a high level of soccer playing ability to what we have built. These players are very enthusiastic and excited to be part of the JSU Gamecock tradition. I look forward to seeing their influence and impact in our continual success on the field and in the classroom. Our team has developed great chemistry. These new additions have gelled well with our returning players. We are excited about the discipline and motivation our team has in preparation for next fall.”

Meehan is a 5-9 midfielder/defender out of Kennesaw Mountain High School in Kennesaw, Ga. She has lettered four years for the Mustangs while playing club soccer for the NASA 10 Elite team and she was a member of the 1992 Georgia State Olympic Development Team. Meehan started 18 games with seven goals and two assists for 14 points and was voted the Team Captain as a junior.

"Amy is an impact player,” Carlson said. “She works very hard and has a huge presence when she is on the field. She is a gifted left footed player. She has the ability to play multiple positions for us. She sees the game well, has a tenacious mentality to attack and is a fearless defender in any role she plays. She is a wonderful person to be around and really comes to us with a great excitement about the game. Amy is fun, an outgoing spirit, who wants her team to always have success."

Amy on Why JSU?
“I chose JSU because I love the campus, the soccer team, and I felt like it was the perfect fit for me.”

Hartrampf is a 5-7 defender also out of Kennesaw Mountain and from the NASA 10 Elite Soccer Club. As a junior, Hartrampf totaled 20 points that included eight goals and four assists while starting 18 games.

"Katelyn is very athletic and strong in the air,” said Carlson. “She is comfortable on the ball and will be used in various positions at this level. I see Katelyn being a solid defensive presence for us in our backline. Katelyn is someone who comes across as a quiet individual off the field, but has a dominant personality on the field and takes her game seriously."
Katelyn on Why JSU? JSU felt right for me, a good fit. The team and everyone made me feel comfortable on my visit."

Alison Gonzalez 5-4, Forward, Roswell, Ga., Blessed Trinity/NASA

Gonzalez comes from Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Roswell, Ga., and is JSU's third signee off the NASA 10 Elite club team. Gonzalez, a 5-4 forward, has started 54 games and scored 40 career goals, including five game-winning goals, entering this season.

"Alison is a creative attacking player and goal scorer,” Carlson said. “She will add the ability to develop attacks with her off the ball movements and her ability to maintain possession in order to create goals and finish the ball in the final third. She is witty, mature and a passionate person."

Alison on Why JSU? “As a junior, it was a little overwhelming making a decision on where I would end up playing soccer and working towards a college degree. What I found at JSU was a great coaching staff and program, a team full of team players, and a good college atmosphere. Coach Carlson along with Coach Swift made my decision easier when speaking with them on my first visit. They are players' coaches and that was what helped me make my final decision. I knew I wanted to play and be a part of a team that has each other's back. I know that if I give 110 percent Coach Carlson will also."

Francesca Fitzgerald 5-1, Midfielder Harvest, Ala., Sparkman/Huntsville SC

Fitzgerald helped Sparkman High School in Harvest, Ala., to an AHSAA State title during her career and was an All-Region III selection. Fitzgerald, a 5-1 central midfielder, lettered all four years and played in the 2009 AHSAA North-South All-Star game.

"Francesca is a crafty player,” Carlson added. “She is good in tight spaces, has quick feet and hard to read. She can disguise the ball well under pressure. I look forward to seeing her grow and develop in our program. I feel she can really emerge with these players around her to allow her to use her playmaking ability and ball control to be effective. Fran is a sweet, outgoing and fun individual with a smile on her face every day."

Fran on Why JSU?, “They have a strong Division I soccer program and many academic opportunities.”

Jacksonville State opens the 2010 season at home on Fri., Aug. 20 against Gardner Webb at 6 p.m.
