ASU Runners Sweep Weekly SWAC Honors Again

Hornet runners continue to shine during indoor season
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second consecutive week, Alabama State University indoor track and field athletes swept the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track Performers of the Week honors as Clarissa Johnson and Jonathan Franklin were picked by the league office.

Johnson, a senior from Columbus, Ga., led a strong performance by the Lady Hornet squad. She captured the high jump title with a leap of 5'05” and finished fourth in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.68. In addition, Johnson was a member of ASU's 4x400m relay squad that took first place in a time of 3:57.50.

Franklin, a junior from Lawrenceville, Ga., earned the 400m title with a time of 48.60 and also finished tied for sixth in the 200m with a 22.42 mark. Additionally, he was a member of ASU's 4x400m relay squad that finished first in a time of 3:14.38.

The Hornet duo next competes with their teammates at the SWAC Indoor Championship on Feb. 25-27 in Baton Rouge, La.
