JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team (0-3) lost a 4-3 decision to Samford University (4-1) in its home opener on Wednesday at the JSU Tennis Courts.
Chris Duke and Axel Sunberg defeated Carson Kadi and Zac Dunkle 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and
Nenad Marcec and
Thomas Bellman won a 9-7 decision over Michael Browder and Joe Hunsicker at No. 3 doubles to give the Gamecocks 1-0 lead.
Sunberg beat Scott Foster 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 10-2 (super tiebreaker) at No.2 single and Marcec cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Kadi at No. 4 singles.
Samford won at No. 1, 3 and No. 5 to even the match 3-3.
Felipe Watanabe retired in the second set at No. 6 singles to end the match.
