JSU Women’s Hoops Scrap Way To Overtime Win Over EKU

Sophomore Brittany Wiley recorded her third double double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead Jacksonville State to a 49-46 overtime win over Eastern Kentucky (10-13, 6-7 Ohio Valley Conference) on Saturday at McBrayer Arena.

Wiley scored the game's final four points, including the game tying layup with one second left to send the game to overtime and then scored four of JSU's five points in overtime. It was Wiley's third career double double this season and her 23 points matched her career-high.

The Gamecocks (7-16, 4-9 OVC) went on a 17-1 run that spanned through the end of regulation and into overtime and held EKU without a field goal for 11:28 that included the final 6:48 of regulation and through 4:44 of overtime. A Sarah Fraser-Jones basket with 16 seconds left in overtime cut the JSU lead to 49-46.

The win ended a four-game losing streak for JSU and was the first win in eight meetings at EKU's McBrayer arena.

Jax State used a 7-0 run to build a 10-5 lead on a Wiley layup with 14:03 left in the first half only to endure an scoring drought that lasted 11:09 that ended on a Candice Carmine jumper with 2:54 to go in the first half.

During the drought, EKU went on a 14-0 run to take a 19-10 lead with 4:11 left in the first half. JSU closed the half on a 6-2 run to trail 21-18 at intermission.

Wiley was the only Gamecock to score in double figures with Danielle Vaughn following with six points and nine rebounds. Zenobia Pitts and Danielle Beneby finished with five points. Karisma Boykin collected 10 rebounds in a game for the second time this season and had five assists.

Shakeyia Colyer led EKU with 18 points while Alex Jones added nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Jacksonville State returns home to host UT Martin on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
