Gamecocks Travel To Morehead and EKU For Key OVC Games

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State women's basketball looks to get back on track this week with key Ohio Valley Conference road games against Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky.

The Gamecocks open the week at Morehead State on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. central before wrapping up the two-game conference trip against Eastern Kentucky at 3 p.m. central on Saturday.

Jax State comes into the week 6-15 overall and currently tied with UT Martin for seventh at 3-7 in league play. The Gamecocks have lost three straight games after falling to Eastern Illinois, 60-43, on Saturday.

Sophomore Brittany Wiley is averaging 9.3 points and 5.4 rebounds. Wiley missed last Saturday's Eastern Illinois game with a sprained knee and is day-to-day for this week.

Karisma Boykin is the second leading scorer with 8.6 points and leads the team with 60 assists. Danielle Vaughn follows Wiley with 4.6 rebounds per game and has a team-best 15 blocks.

Morehead State has won its last three games to sit 16-7 overall and in second place with a 9-2 OVC record. The Eagles soared past Austin Peay 88-68 to close last week with a 2-0 mark.

Chynna Bozemen lead the Eagles past APSU with 37 points that included nine of the teams 15 3-pointers in the game. Bozemen leads MSU and the OVC with 19.3 points per game.

Tiffany Hamilton is scoring 11.9 points followed by Courtney Lumpkin with 10.6 points per game. Ashar Harris is tops on the boards with 9.3 points per game.

Eastern Kentucky hosts Tennessee Tech on Thursday before welcoming the Gamecocks on Saturday. EKU is 9-12 overall and 5-6 in the OVC coming into the week.

The Colonels have lost three straight and six of its last seven games and have been struggling without leading scorer Talisha Davis, who left the team six games ago for personal reasons. Davis was averaging 11.7 points per game and was also leading the team with 25 threes. Alex Jones is averaging 11 points and a team-best eight rebounds per game.
