Trenton Marshall Earns Another OVC Weekly Honor

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State junior Trenton Marshall earned the Ohio Valley Conference's Newcomer of the Week award on Monday for the second-straight week and the sixth time this season, the league office announced on Monday.

Marshall, a 6-foot-5 native of Garyville, La., received the honor after guiding the Gamecocks (10-11, 6-5 OVC) to a pair of home wins last week that kept them in the middle of the pack in the OVC race. A transfer from Jones Junior College in Ellisville, Miss., he averaged 19.5 points and seven rebounds per game during the week.

Hiss sixth OVC Newcomer of the Week honor gives Marshall more than any JSU player in a season, passing Courtney Bradley's five earned in 2005-06. The Gamecocks have now received a total of 10 weekly honors from the OVC this season, the most by a JSU team since joining the conference in 2003-04.

Marshall opened the week with 14 points and eight rebounds in a 58-55 win over Southeast Missouri on Thursday. He then poured in 25 points and grabbed a team-high six boards on Saturday to guide JSU to a 70-55 win over Eastern Illinois. Against the Panthers, he also had two steals, a blocked shot and an assist.

Marshall, who leads the OVC in scoring with 18.6 points per game, will help JSU try and improve its standing in the OVC race this week on a crucial road trip that will have the Gamecocks play three games in five days. They open the trip on Tuesday at Tennessee State at 7 p.m. before heading to Morehead State for a Thursday game. They will conclude the trip on Saturday at Eastern Kentucky.
