JSU Women Fall Short Against Southeast Missouri State

Patricia Mack scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Southeast Missouri State (7-12, 4-6 OhioValley Conference) to a 52-47 win over Jacksonville State (6-14, 3-7 OVC) on Thursday at Pete Mathews Coliseum.

The Gamecocks found themselves trailing by 10 points with five minutes to play in the second half before cutting the deficit to 49-47 on a Destiny Lane basket with 22 seconds remaining in the contest.

Bianca Beck, who had a game-high 10 rebounds along with scored seven points, hit two free throws to push the Redhawks lead to 51-47 with 21 seconds left only to see the Gamecocks miss a three-point attempt and a jumper on its next two offensive trips. Lesley Adams made one-of-two free throws with four seconds remaining to give SEMO the 52-47 win.

JSU held an early 6-5 lead on a pair of Candice Carmine free throws at the 16:30 mark of the first half but a Katie Norman layup gave SEMO the lead for good with 16:07 left in the half.

Southeast Missouri State would go on a 12-2 run later in the half to build a 29-18 lead en route to a 33-20 lead at halftime.

Karisma Boykin was the only Gamecock to score in double figures with 11 points. Danielle Beneby followed with seven points and a team-high seven rebounds. Brittany Wiley, Lane and Zenobia Pitts each finished with six points.

Norman followed Mack with 11 points and two assists while Adams chipped in 10 points.

Jacksonville State hosts OVC leader Eastern Illinois on Saturday at 2 p.m.
