ASU Track Squads Compete at ETSU Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.
– Beldon Ferguson posted an NCAA qualifying time in leading the Alabama State University track and field teams to a successful showing over the weekend at the Niswonger Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State University at the Memorial Center.

Ferguson clocked a time of 7.90 in the 60m hurdle preliminaries, eclipsing the required NCAA provisional mark of 7.91. His time qualified him for the event final at the meet and also earned him the No. 13 national ranking this week for the 60m hurdles.

Other top men's performers for ASU at the Niswonger Invitational included Delorean Peek (48.61) and Johnathan Franklin (48.80) both qualifying for the finals of the 400m.

Shexnieavia Bryant led the way for the Lady Hornets squad earning a third-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 55'07.7” and an eighth-place showing in the shot put (42'02.75”).

Tyrisha Chambers also excelled in a pair of events scoring a sixth-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 5'3.25” while also reaching the finals heat of the 60m hurdles following a time of 9.07 in the prelims. Dawn Hermanes qualified for the finals in the 60m dash with a time of 7.73 and Tokeyah Jones narrowly missed the finals of the 200m following an opening round sprint of 25.07.

The ASU track and field teams continue indoor season action this weekend at the UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
