JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team will be at home on Thursday, when the Gamecocks host Southeast Missouri at 7:45 p.m. at Pete Mathews Coliseum.

The Gamecocks (8-11, 4-5 Ohio Valley Conference) will be looking for a little payback when SEMO (6-13, 3-6 OVC) pays a visit to Pete Mathews Coliseum to wrap up the season series. The Redhawks jumped to an early lead in the first meeting of the year and held on for a 78-66 win over JSU on Jan. 4 in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

The meeting will be the 13th all-time between the two on the hardwood, with the Gamecocks winning nine of the first 12. The series started in the quarterfinals of the 1985 NCAA Division II Tournament, when Melvin Allen sank a desperation 30-footer at the buzzer to lift the GAmecocks to an 80-79 win in Cape Girardeau. JSU eventually won the National Championship that season.

In the two's last meeting, junior Trenton Marshall scored a JSU Division I record 37 points, only to watch his team fall short at the end. Marshall scored 28 of his points in the second half alone, also a Division I record, en route to the highest scoring output by a Gamecock since 1991 and the most by any player in the OVC this season.

Marshall won his fifth OVC Newcomer of the Week award on Monday, giving the GAmecocks' nine weekly honors this year, the most by a JSU team since joining the OVC for the 2003-04 season. Marshall leads the OVC in scoring with 18.5 points per game.

JSU is coming off of a tough 66-64 overtime loss to Austin Peay on Saturday, a game that saw senior Amadou Mbodji record a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds in 35 minutes of action off of the bench.

SEMO has dropped four of its last five since defeating JSU on Jan. 5, including an 80-61 loss to Murray State on Saturday. Anthony Allison leads the Redhawks in scoring at 10.5 points per game, while four other players are scoring at least 8.8 points per outing.
