NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Alabama State University track and field team posted eight first-place finishes at the recently completed Ed Temple/Tennessee State Invitational.
The event, hosted by TSU in the Gentry Center, marked the start of the indoor track season for the ASU men's and women's squads.
The list of first-place finishers for Bama State included:
Tokeyah Jones (Women's 55m – 7.05, Women's 200m – 25.35);
Breana Kelly (Women's 800m – 2:22.66); Raheema Hodges (Women's 2792m run – 10:25.20);
Vincent Butler (Men's 400m – 49.00);
Robert Gunn (Men's Mile run – 4:25.19, Men's 3000m – 8:55.63) and the Men's 4x400m relay (Butler,
Delorean Peek,
Charles Flewellen,
Jonathan Franklin – 3:20.66).
In addition to earning eight event titles, Alabama State had several other top performances.
On the women's side,
Dawn Hemanes finished second in the 55m (7.14) and third in the 200m (26.14).
Lutrisha Altidor earned a third-place finish in the 400m (59.88) while Hodges also added a third-place showing in the mile run (5:41.99). Kelly led an ASU sweep in the 800m as teammates
Simone Buford (2:22.87) and
Whitney Austin (2:24.22) finished second and third, respectively. Keshia Derilus finished second in the 2792m (10:28.13).
In the field events, the Lady Hornets saw Tyrisha Chambers finish second in the high jump (1.68m) and
Shanice Mells finish third in the weight throw (15.84m).
Shexnieavia Bryant rounded out the top performances for the ASU women finishing second in the weight throw (17.26m) and third in the shot put (11.84m).
Joshua Lockett earned a runner-up finish in the 200m (22.65) for the Alabama State men's team, while Chris Duncan finished third in the 800m (1:56.11) and Beldon Ferguson was third in the 55m (7.58). JaHari Reives picked up a second-place showing in the weight throw (12.90m) for the ASU men's field performers.
