SEMO Rallies Past JSU Women

Karisma Boykin recorded her first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds but it was not enough as Southeast Missouri State (5-8; 2-2 OVC) rallied for a 56-53 win over Jacksonville State on Monday at The Show Me Center.

The Gamecocks (3-10: 0-3 OVC) jumped out to a 5-0 lead to open the game and held the lead the whole first half. A Boykin three-point play gave JSU a 31-19 lead on the end of a 10-2 run with 3:31 left in the first half.

SEMO went on a 7-0 run to end the half and cut the JSU lead to 31-26 at halftime. The Gamecocks shot 44 percent in the first half while the Redhawks connected on 38 percent of their field goal attempts.

Cierra Duhart, who had nine points on the night, gave JSU a 44-35 lead with 11:47 to play in the second half before Bailie Roberts cut the lead to 44-43 with at the 10:26 mark.

A Boykin 3-pointer pushed the lead 47-43 before Jasmine Davis tied the game, 47-47 with 7:50 remaining in the contest.

Lesley Adams' layup with 7:18 left in the second half gave the Redhawks their first lead of night, 49-47.

The game would see three ties and three lead changes over the final seven minutes before SEMO took the lead for good on a Bailie Roberts 3-pointer with 1:18 left in the game.

JSU was held without a field goal over the final 5:59 of the game and finished the night shooting 36 percent from the floor.

Destiny Lane made two free throws to make it a 54-53 game with 29 seconds left but Bianca Beck hit two free throws with 21 seconds left to give SEMO a 56-53 lead.

Roberts led the SEMO scoring with 13 points followed by Davis with 10 points. Patricia Mack had a game-high 12 boards to go along with nine points.

Jacksonville State returns home to start a two-game Ohio Valley Conference home stand against Eastern Kentucky on Thursday at 3 p.m. in Pete Mathews Coliseum.
