CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois had three players score in double figures en route to an 85-48 Ohio Valley Conference win over Jacksonville State at EIU's Lantz Arena on Saturday.
The loss snapped a two-game winning streak as JSU fell to 3-9 overall and 0-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Panthers improved to 6-8 overall and 2-1 in the league.
Ta'Kenya Nixon scored 21 points to pace the EIU scoring. Maggie Kloak had 11 points and seven rebounds and Ashley Thomas had 10 points and five rebounds. Sydney Mitchell pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for the Panthers.
Eastern Illinois shot 54 percent in the first half while holding JSU to 31 percent to claim a 50-24 lead at halftime.
EIU continued its hot shooting making 53.3 percent in the second half and finished the game shooting 53 percent while out rebounding JSU 49-22 on the night.
Destiny Lane was the only Gamecock in double figures with 14 points followed by
Kelsey Johnikin with nine points and
Brittany Wiley with eight points. Johnikin and Wiley led JSU with four rebounds apiece.
Jacksonville State closes out the two-game OVC road swing against Southeast Missouri State on Monday at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo., at 5:30 p.m.
