JSU Women Post 76-64 Win Over Talladega College

Destiny Lane scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds to lead Jacksonville State (3-8) to a 76-64 win over Talladega College (5-10) on Tuesday at Pete Mathews Coliseum.

Jacksonville State held a 38-20 advantage on points in the paint and a 28-11 on points off turnovers while shooting 46 percent on the night. The game marked the second straight come back win for JSU, erasing double digit deficits in both contests.

Talladega jumped out to an early 10-4 lead only to see the Gamecocks tie the game on a pair of Karisma Boykin free throws with 16:10 to play in the first half. Boykin would finish the game with a career-high 17 points and seven assists.

The Tornadoes out scored JSU 17-5 over a six-minute span of the first half to take a 31-19 lead on a Danielle Padgett jumper with 6:37 remaining.

Jax State used an 18-1 run to close the first half trailing 34-33 following a Kelsey Johnikin jumper at the buzzer.

The Gamecocks went on a 14-1 run to take command of the game. Danielle Vaughn, who scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds, tied the game 44-44 on a three-point play with 11:38 left in the second half.

Lane followed with a steal and layup to put JSU 46-44 and on the Tornadoes' ensuing possession had a steal and an assist on a layup by Boykin for a 48-44 lead with 11:17 to play.

A Candice Carmine jumper in the lane gave JSU a 59-45 lead with 7:20 remaining in the contest.

Two Lane free throws helped JSU to its biggest lead of the night at 76-62 lead with 24 seconds left in the contest.

Jacksonville State plays Eastern Illinois in the first of two Ohio Valley Conference road games on Sat. at 4 p.m. central in Charleston, Ill. The Gamecocks close the road trip against Southeast Missouri State on Mon. at 5:30 p.m. central in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
