Gamecocks Open Three-Game Road Trip At UNF Tourney

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –
The Jacksonville State Women's Basketball team will open a three-game road trip on Thursday in day one of the Hampton Inn and Suites Lady Osprey Holiday Classic hosted by the University of North Florida.

Jacksonville State (1-7) and Savannah State (7-4) get things started in game one at 2 p.m. central on Thursday. North Florida (1-7) takes on South Carolina State (4-4) in game two at 4 p.m. central. On Friday, Dec. 18, Jacksonville State and South Carolina State will play the 2 p.m. game followed by UNF against Savannah State at 4 p.m.

The Gamecocks are coming off a 68-59 loss to Tennessee Tech in its Ohio Valley Conference opener on Sat., Dec. 5. Savannah State came up short in a 57-45 loss to Norfolk State on Tuesday while South Carolina State enters the tournament following a 61-47 loss to Presbyterian.

JSU and Savannah State meet for the sixth time on the hardwood with the Gamecocks holding a 5-0 lead in the series. The Gamecocks and Tigers last played on Feb. 26, 2004 with JSU claiming a 76-57 win in Jacksonville, Ala. JSU and South Carolina State will meet for the first time on Friday.

Zenobia Pitts leads JSU with 9.1 points per game. Jolie Efezokhae is adding 8.3 points per game while pulling down a team-high 4.6 rebounds per game.

Leading Savannah State is Crissa Jackson with 9.9 points per game. Darice Fountaine is adding 9.1 points per game while Alisha Nelson is pulling down a team best 7.1 boards per game.

South Carolina State is led by Sophilia Hipps with 18.1 points and 3.9 assists per game. Joi Walker is adding 10.9 points per game while pulling down 6.5 rebounds per game. Paris Alston is notching a team leading 6.6 rebounds per game.

Single-game tickets for women's basketball games are $10 for adults and $8 for youth 17-and-under and senior citizens 55-and-older. One ticket will admit you to both the 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. games on those days. Children 2-and-under and any current UNF student with a valid Osprey1 Card are admitted free.
