ASU's Kesia Derilus Wins Cross Country Title, Lady Hornets Finish 2nd

Sophomore Kesia Derilus led the way for ASU Lady Hornets
BATON ROUGE, La. – Alabama State University sophomore Kesia Derilus capped her stellar cross country season by winning the individual title at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship, but the Lady Hornets were unable to defend their team title Monday at Highland Park.

Derilus, who earned Athlete of the Year and All-SWAC first team honors, raced to the individual title in a time of 19:47.56 over the 5K course.

She was joined among the race leaders by ASU teammates Raheema Hodges (6th, 20:13.13) and Lutrisha Altidor (8th, 20:17.60). Hodges and Altidor both garnered All-SWAC second-team accolades for their efforts.

In the team competition, Arkansas-Pine Bluff finished with 25 points edging Bama State (39) by 14 points. Grambling State finished third with 81 followed by Jackson State (93), Prairie View A&M (136), Southern (160), Mississippi Valley State (191), Alabama A&M (199), Texas Southern (236) and Alcorn State (256).
