In the beginning of December 2019, Chakiya Plummer opened her season at the Magic City Invitational in 58.36.

A week later at the Holiday Invitational, Hoover's (AL) sprinter turned up the heat and won the 400m at the Crossplex Athletic Facility in Birmingham, Alabama.

Plummer started the race in lane five on the banked track. Within her first few steps, she took command of the race. She kept a few steps ahead of Zakiria Holifield of Thompson throughout the second lap. Plummer stopped the clock in 56.95.

Her heat had five of the top eight times of the day. Plummer and Holifield were the only two girls who ran faster than 60 seconds in the two-lap race.

This performance was Plummer's second-fastest time that she ran in 2019 in the 400m. Later on that indoor season, she won her first AHSAA State Indoor Championship title in the 400m after she placed sixth a year ago. She crossed the finish line at the state championships with a 56.65.
