By The Numbers: Nathan Mountain's 14:46 5K

St. Xavier senior, Nathan Mountain threw down one of the country's most impressive 5k performances for 2020 at last weekend's Trinity / Valkyrie Invitational in Louisville.

Mountain, a recent University of Virginia Cavaliers commit, dropped a 14:46.90 effort to secure the individual victory and lead his Bombers squad to first place in the team standings. The formidable Cincinnati-based group placed five runners inside the overall top sixteen and recorded 42 points to outpace high quality teams from Floyd Central, IN (2nd place ~ 92 points) and St. Xavier-Louisville (3rd place ~ 126 points).

Mountain has been on a tear from the word go this fall - he collected early season victories at the Moeller Primetime Invite (15:52.10) and the Hot Summer Bash (15:19.20) leading up to the new pr mark he established in Kentucky.

We reached out to Nathan for more context on how he's clicking on all cylinders during his senior campaign.

"I knew from the start that I wanted to break the school record of 15:10, so I wasn't going to wait long to take the lead." "At the end of the straightaway I took the lead, and the rest of the race felt smooth from there."

"When I saw my time at the end I was shocked and very excited. Most importantly, though, our team is looking amazing right now." "My teammate Conor Bohrer ran a 15:31 and our 5th runner checked-in at 16:11." "I can't wait to see what the rest of the season brings!"
