Denton Runs Sub-15, Satellite Finishes 7th at GAXC

Lake Wales senior, Anderson Denton, had a break out race this weekend at the Great American Race of Champions.

Denton ran a huge PR of 14:57 to finish third overall and set a state leading time as the second Florida boy to break the 15 minute barrier over the past two cross country seasons.

He finished third in the Katie Caples elite race after training hard through the race. With great weather and a strong race strategy, Denton led the Florida boys and earned a spot as one of the top athletes in the south east region of the nation.

"We knew the first mile would be fast. We just needed to get through that and not be afraid of a fast start. I just wanted to go through it and see if I could hang in there," Denton told VA MileSplit editor, Nolan Jez after the race. "The top goal is to break the state record on the Apalachee Regional Park course."

Maclay senior, Junious Brown, was the next to cross the finish line for Florida in a new PR of 15:14.5 ahead of FSU Pre-State next week.

Coming off a stellar week at the 20th annual flrunners.com Invitational, Diego Gomez, crossed the finish line sub 15:30 as the third Florida finisher with Gabe Montague leading the Satellite boys coming in close in a time of 15:33.4.

Satellite finished seventh overall against a stacked field, with Belen Jesuit taking eighth, Bartram Trail finishing in the top 20 as a team, and Plant, Lake Wales, and Bolles finishing top 30.
