Salute to Seniors: Katelyn Cowie - St. Bernard Prep

Athlete Name: Katelyn Cowie

School: Saint Bernard Prep

What was your most memorable meet and why?

My most memorable meet would be the 2014 XC state meet. My team won state for the first year ever in XC and the first state championship in our school history.

Where did you face your biggest competition?

I faced my biggest competition  with my team in the 4x4 at state in 2015. We barely missed winning state and we came in second.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most and why?

Helping my team to a back to back state championship in XC in 2016. It was a nearly impossible feat, but we pulled through and accomplished the task.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your running career in high school? Probably not being injured my junior and senior year in XC. If I did not get injured, I most likely would have gotten all-state those years.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome during your HS Track career?

The most difficult obstacle would probably have to be pushing past all the mental and physical things that occurred in every race to help score points for the team and PR.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss my coaches and friends who have become a second family to me over the years.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

Work hard and never give up. Obstacles may come up, but always look to the future and push past them.

What are your post-highschool or college plans?

I will be attending the University of South Alabama where I will be majoring in nursing.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to say thanks to my coaches, friends, and family who have never given up on me and have always push me to be my best.
