Carly Seymour entered this season intent on returning to the Footlocker Nationals, and after her impressive run this weekend she just may be a favorite to win it all. Seymour beat 3 returning Footlocker Finalists en route to her course record run of 13:55.7 (officially 13:56) on the 2.5 mile layout. The previous course record was 13:57 by Nicole Blood, Saratoga Springs. Central Cambria finished 9th as a team with 306 points against some very tough competition. Emmaus girls ran tough in the meet despite having Homecoming activities that created tired legs. Don't count them out however, as they will have fresh legs for Districts and States. In the girls Varsity C race North Penn finished 3rd, 135 points, and Henderson finished 6th with 217 points. Individually, Henderson's Carly Hamond was 2nd in 14:46.59. In the girls Varsity A race Council Rock South finished 16th with 481 points.
In the boys Varsity D race North Penn took home the win with 44 points. They also achieved the fastest team average of all the races with a 12:57.1 - and the second fastest team average of all time, behind only the great Fayetteville-Manlius team of 2004. The 1-5 spread was an impressive 30 seconds and the 1-7 spread was only 50 seconds. Zach Mantijo was the top North Penn finisher in 3rd place with a time of 12:44.53. In the Varsity C race Dan Lowry, Lasalle, earned the individual victory with a time of 12:36.01. LaSalle was 5th with 168 points. In Varsity E race action Germantown Friend's Max Kaulbach (12:27.92) outkicked Henderson's Chris Aldrich (12:38.68) for the victory. (Photo of Kaulbach and Aldrich exiting woods) The times were the best and 3rd best PA marks of the day. Germantown Friends won the race with 71 points while Henderson finished 4th with 138 points. Holy Ghost Prep was 5th in the Varsity B race with 193 points. Council Rock South was 16th in the Varsity F race with 428 points and Central Cambria was 26th with 668 points. In the Varsity G race Lower Merion teammates Neal Berman and Ben Furcht were 6th and 7th with times of 12:59.53 and 13:00.15.

Jon McElwain won the boys varsity race with a time of 17:09. Ryan Barlow, Freedom Area, finished 2nd in 17:43. West Allegheny won the team title with 69 points and a spread of 59 seconds. Mars was 2nd with 75 points and a spread of 55 seconds. Kacey Gibson, Neshannock, continues to win in dominating fashion, posting an 18:58 to win by 1:25. Bethany Walker, Ellwood City, was 2nd in 20:23. West Allegheny won the girls team competition with 82 points to beat Moon Area, 91 points.

Matt Brooker and Nathan Brown went 1-2 with times of 16:39 and 17:00 to lead Penns Valley to the victory with 39 points. Penns Valley placed 4 runners in the top-10 to beat out Indian Valley, 60 points. Alisha Jordan and Shannon Yarger, Penns Valley, took 1-2 in the girls race with times of 20:38 and 20:57, but the effort landed Penns Valley one point short of victory. Central won with 61 points while Penns Valley's impressive front-running led to a score of 62 points.
Dan Lowry, LaSalle, ran 12:36.01 to win Manhattan's Varsity C.
The time was PA's 2nd best of the day, between Kaulbach and Aldrich.

David Adley, Baldwin, continues his winning streak with a 11 second victory over D.J. Kanstek, Gateway, in the boys varsity race. Adley posted a 15:52 while Kanstek put up a 16:03. Canon-MacMillan won the team competition over Gateway, 47-54. In the girls varsity race Chelsea Sumney, Trinity, continues to win with a time of 19:20 to edge out Peters Township's Kayla Keddal, 19:21. Peters Township returned the favor in the team competition, scoring 58 points to beat Trinity's 80 points.

Nick Bonaventure, Penncrest, won the boys varsity race with a 15:57 effort to lead his team to the victory. Mike Destefano, O'Hara, was 2nd in 16:00 and Haverford's Matt Keehn was 3rd in 16:10. Penncrest scored 53 points and had 5 runners in the top-16 during their championship run. O'Hara was 2nd with 69 points. In the girls varsity race Melissa Frick, Strath Haven, lead her team to victory with her winning time of 18:31 Julianne Garvey, Notre Dame, was 2nd in 18:50 and Kelyn Freedman, Radnor, was 3rd in 18:51. Strath Haven put 5 runners in the top-25 for 62 points, to narrowly edge out an O'Hara team that put 5 runners in the top-17 to score 65 points.

In the boys varsity race Cam Stauffer and Chris Cipro went 1-2, with both running 17:24, to lead Seneca Valley to the team victory with 22 points. Seneca Valley had 5 runners in the top-8 and an impressive spread of 35 seconds. Second place Greensburg Salem scored 62 points with a spread of 57 seconds. In the girls varsity race Ellwood City senior Bethany Walker took first with a time of 20:04. Samantha Bower, Greensburg Salem, was 2nd in 20:15. Greensburg Salem won the team competition with 32 points. They put 5 runners in the top-11 with a spread of 2:01. Seneca Valley was 2nd with 52 points.

At the Rocky Grove Invite General McLane took the first 3 spots in the boys race and placed 5 runners in the top-10 to win the meet with 20 points and a :58 spread. Dan Dillon, General McLane, was first in 16:44. Knoch frosh Jolene Kunkel won the girls varsity race with a time of 19:23 to beat Mercer senior Melissa Smith by 13 seconds. Union city won the meet with 48 points and a spread of 1:26. Knoch took second in the meet with 90 points.

The State College Girls cruised to a team title at their host meet in Happy Valley. The Lady Little Lions won the State College Invitational, 23-53 over Altoona. SC placed five runners in the top seven spots of the race. They were led by Cloe Schmidt’s 19:33, second place finish. Schmidt was five seconds back of the overall winner, Jayme Daly of Shikellamy at 19:28.
Altoona’s Chris Fischer (16:21) out-kicked Chambersburg’s David Eubanks (16:22) at the line to win the Boys’ Race. Chambersburg won the overall team title, 31-65 over Altoona. C’burg put all five of their runners in the top ten.
Girls summary by Rebecca Donaghue
State College's Freshman Chloe Schmidt and Sophomore Lucia Sofo took the lead and worked together early on, while Schikellamy's Jayme Daly bided her time. Schmidt pulls away from Sofo and takes a commanding lead while Daly passes Sofo and starts to reel in Schmidt. Daly catches Schmidt and the two go back and forth. About 800 to go Daly pulls away from Schmidt and takes the win on the 3.04 course in 19:28. Schmidt takes 2nd in 19:40, Sofo 3rd in 19:54. State College puts 3 more in the top 10 with a 38 second spread between 1st to 5th runner.

In the William Tennent Invitational Nick Crits, Wissahickon, took the victory with a time of 15:59. Upper Dublin's Mike Palmisano was 2nd in a time of 16:08. Third place went to James Faucette, Pennridge, in a time of 16:20. Pennridge won the team championship with 53 points and an impressive spread of 57 seconds. Upper Dublin was 2nd with 64 points and a spread of 1:23. In the girls varsity race Marie Thompson, Dowingtown East, posted a time of 19:05 to win the meet by 26 seconds. Beth Lambright, Christopher Dock, was 2nd in 19:31. Downingtown East won the meet with 46 points and a 1:07 spread to beat the host team William Tennent, with 111 points and a 1:27 spread.

GIRLS PREVIEW by Coach Bill Coren (Strath Haven)
TEAMS--Of the 21 Delaware County teams only 3 appear to have a chance for the "County bragging rights." ARCHBISHOP CARROLL has a strong top 4, but will need a huge effort by their #5 or #6 runner to compete with OHARA and STRATH HAVEN.
STRATH HAVEN has been 2nd in this meet 3 times, but has NEVER won the County Title!! They are undefeated in the Central League(which includes 2006 STATE CHAMP RADNOR) and came in first at Abington Invitational and second in the Championship race at Briarwood and second in the Elite race at Bull Run(MD). They have a very strong top 3 and will need a solid race by their 4th and 5th to have a chance to win DELCOS. OHARA is running stronger every meet and they have HISTORY on their side. They have been first 10 times and 2nd 9 times at DELCOS and were runner-ups in 2005 and 2006 to RADNOR. OHARA last won in 2004--3 of their current seniors were freshmen on that championsip team. Even though STRATH HAVEN finished one place higher than OHARA at Abington and Briarwood, OHARA did not have senior Beth Kelly at those meets. More recently OHARA crushed the field at Salesianum and their top 6 spread is around 30 seconds!!! Can STRATH HAVEN step it up and make history?? Will OHARA continue its historic Delco domination?? INDIVIDUALS--The past 2 DELCOS have seen a freshman be crowned the DELCO champ. Will it happen again? Will girls who ran track before, but are doing XC for the first time be the champ? Here are some potential CHAMPIONS---Freshmen Julianne Garvey(NOTRE DAME) Nicole Delgrosso(OHARA Hannah Meyer(STRATH HAVEN)--Veterans Shaniel Chambers(CHESTER) Erica Matticola(PRENDERGAST) Kelyn Freedman(RADNOR) Beth Kelly(OHARA) --The 2 favorites appear to be the "Track" girls--Caitlyn Sorbeck(ARCHBISHOP CARROLL) and Melissa Frick(STRATH HAVEN)--Storbeck is a dominant 800/miler who is tough as they come--Frick is a miler/two-miler who has beaten everyone in the field and may bring STRATH HAVEN it's first individual champion in the history of one of the finest meets anywhere-the DELAWARE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!!!
