Senior Spotlight: Aswan Duncan - Fairhope HS

Athlete Name: Aswan Duncan

School: Fairhope High School

What was your most memorable meet and why?
The Sectional Meet at McGill when I ran a career PR and broke the school record.

Where did you face your biggest competition?
I faced my biggest competition at the 6A State Championship this year when I had to run against Marlon Humphrey.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most and why?
When I broke my ankle during my Junior year and came back to place 4th at the Maine state meet and then placing 3rd the next year at the Alabama state meet.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
I would have started hurdling seriously my freshman year instead of my junior year.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
Some of the most difficult obstacles I had to overcome this year was adjusting to the environment. I practiced on a track one time this year, which is new to me, because I'm used to practicing on a track every day. I also had to adjust to the new coaching style I was approached with, but I guess those things I thought were obstacles turned out to be the opposite and it helped me reach the success I did this year.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss my team the most. I haven't known them that long but we became pretty close in the time that we did know each other.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
I'd have to say put everything you got into what you do. It will all pay off in the end.

What are your post-highschool or college plans?
I will be doing the Decathlon and 400m Hurdles at Lindenwood University - Belleville

Who would you like to say thank you to?
I'd like to say thanks to Coach Yahr for being a great coach and my dad for making me workout almost everyday as I was growing up.
