Former McGill Coach Loses Fight to Lymphoma

Former McGill-Toolen head coach, Angelo Harris, passed away early Sunday morning.  Harris retired from McGill-Toolen but has stayed active in the sport in part as a volunteer assistant coach at Spring Hill College since 2009.  
 
Harris spent his entire career at McGill-Toolen teaching social studies and coaching literally thousands of athletes in Cross Country and Track & Field. Before returning to his alma mater, he was a standout runner for the Yellow Jackets earning three varsity letters in Track and three varsity letters in Cross Country. He was a member of the 1963 State Champion Cross Country Team and the 1966 Individual State Champion in the One Mile Run. 
 
Harris received a full athletic scholarship to the University of Alabama where he became an SEC champion. He set the SEC Indoor 2 Mile Record in 1968 with a time of 9:00.3. He also set the SEC Outdoor 1 Mile Record in 1968 with a time of 4:09.3. He received 3 varsity letters in Cross Country and 4 varsity letters in Track and was selected to the All SEC Cross Country Team 3 times. He also held 7 different University of Alabama Records.
