Salute to Seniors: Donny Barnes, Buckhorne HS

Donny Barnes

What was your most memorable meet?
Huntsville Metro 2013, Won the 800, 1600, & 3200.

Where did you face your biggest competition?
Ahsaa Track and field state meet. (indoor and outdoor)

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most?
Placing 3rd in state for the 1600 meter. I got tripped in the indoor 1600 state championships with 100 meters to go. I was going to get second or third that race. I wanted to redeem myself in outdoor; In which I did with less than a tenth of a second to spare.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
Wish that I had started running competitively before my junior year.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
Getting tripped up in my cross country and indoor state meets this school year.

What will you miss the most?
The competition I ran with. Everyone always got along and it was great. We didn’t have to be from the same team to have a good laugh and talk about running and other things.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
You can be fast, but without some sort of motivation, you won’t accomplish anything.

What are your post-highschool or college plans?
Running competitively in college cross country and Majoring in Kinesiology at the University of Montevallo.

Who would you like to say thank you to?
God, My cross country coach Mr. Campbell, and My parents especially, They supported me with every step I took on and off the track.
