Oak Mountain, led by the running of junior Scott Fuqua, won its own invitational cross country meet at Heardmont Saturday. Mountain Brook won the girls side in the meet that had more than 450 runners in four divisions.
Fuqua ran the three-mile distance in 16:49, beating runner up Jimmy Courtland of Homewood by 33 seconds. Finishing third was Courtland's teammate Kevin Pawlik at 17:36.
Coach Paul Anderton's Eagles won the boys division with 43 points. Hewitt-Trussville was second at 98, and Briarwood third with 103.
Mountain Brook dominated the girls competition, placing six runners in the top nine finishers. Beth Reed won the three mile race in 21:06. LaTash Rowell of Hewitt-Trussville was second at 21:22. The Lady Spartans totaled 23 points with Hewitt-Trussville second at 67, and Oak Mountain third with 110.
The junior high girls competition was won by John Carroll Catholic freshman Shea Statasowski, who clocked 13:22.
Wilson Whitaker of Briarwood Christian won the boys junior high division in 11:06. Both junior high divisions ran two miles.
Mountain Brook won the girls junior high division and Simmons won the boys.
