18 Records fall on the first day of the AHSAA Indoor State Meet

GIRLS

Class 6A
60-Meter Dash: 
Pelham junior Caitland Smith set a new mark with a prelim best 7.55 seconds  – eclipsing Hoover runner Joy Maneice-Marbury’s winning time of 7.65 in last year’s finals.
800-Meter Run: Carmen Carlos, McGill-Toolen Catholic’s outstanding senior runner, clocked 2:11.28 to set a new state record in the Class 6A finals. Her record time ranks third in the nation this season. Carlos also won the 3,200 meters earlier in the day with the fastest time of the meet (10:54.53) but was well short of that record which she set last year (10:34.02).  The previous record in the 800 was set by Catherine Diethelm of Mountain Brook in 2007.
Pole Vault: Margaret Ollinger of McGill-Toolen cleared 11-0 6.50 to set  a new 6A record. The previous mark of 11-06, which was tied Friday b y Mary Kathryn Chesebro of Mountain Brook and Moriah Lorge of Bob Jones, was held by two vaulters. Rhianna Jaet of McGill-Toolen was the first to clear 11-06 in 2003. Aly Goldfarb of Mountain Brook tied that height with her 11-06 performance in 2005.  
Triple Jump: Simone Charley of Spain Park broke her own state record (38-09.50) set last year by almost two feet. Her winning leap was 40-04.25.
 

Class 5A
60-Meter Dash: 
Quanesha Burks of Hartselle and Brianna Sims of Ramsay set up what could be one of Saturday’s most exciting finals with each recording record times in the prelims. Burks broke the record of 7.83 seconds set by Northridge’s Laquinta Aaron in 2007 with a Friday time of 7.75. Sims also bested Aaron’s mark with a 7.78 time.
Pole Vault: Chanel Krause of St. Paul’s set a new 5A mark and overall state record with her winning leap of 12-04. Former St. Paul’s vaulter Neal Tisher held the 5A record (11-0) since 2007. 
 

Class 1A-4A
60-Meter Dash: 
Katie Brooks Bone of Westminster of Oak Mountain beat her own record set last year with a prelim time of 7.76 seconds Friday. She ran 7.81 to win the event in 2012.
3,200-Meter Run: Kathryn Lazarchick, UMS-Wright: Ran the 3,200 meters in 11:02.33 to break her own record set last year of 11:23.05.
800-Meter Run: Lazarchick set her second record of the day with a winning time of 2:16.37 in 800. She broke her own record set last year (2:19.23) by almost three full seconds.
Triple Jump: Guntersville’s Raven Stewart broke her own record (36-07.75) she set last year with a winning leap of 37-01.50 Friday. 
4x200-Meter Relay: Beauregard clocked 1:50.16 to win easily the final race of the night Friday – and smashed the previous state record of 1:51.72 set by Madison County in 2005. 

BOYS

 

Class 6A
60-Meter Hurdles: 
Junior Marlon Humphrey of Hoover broke a 14-year old record (8.06) set by former Bucs runner Chris Butler.  Humphrey ran  7.941 in the prelims.  Mountain Brook’s Charlie Forbes also bested Butler’s record with a 7.942 time.
4x200-Meter Relay: Auburn ran the fastest 4x200 time of the season in the U.S. with a winning time of 1:28.70 – almost two seconds faster than the mark set by Smiths Station (1:30.23) at last year’s state meet.
 

Class 5A
60-Meter Hurdles: 
Lezyon Lagard of Central-Tuscaloosa clocked 8.30 in the 5A prelims for a new record. Barry Johnson of Wenonah ran 8.36 last year  to set the mark.
Triple Jump: Tyler Boland of Vinemont broke the record set by Shaquille Williams of Beauregard (42-01.25) with his winning jump of 45 feet, 8.75 inches.
4x200-Meter Relay: Parker and Homewood bested the 5A record set by the Thundering Herd in 2012. Parker clocked 1:31.86 to win the final event of the day, and the Patriots were second at 1:33.21.
 

Class 1A-4A
60-Meter Dash: 
Tyler Beard of UMS-Wright ran a 7.24 in his preliminary heat to beat the previous record (1:33.36) set by former UMS runner Rashod Bumpers in 2006.
Pole Vault: Russell Pugh of Madison County and Preston Morrison of Guntersville each bettered the previous record of 13-07 set by Joseph Callaway of Leeds in 2007. Morrison cleared 14 feet but finished second to Pugh, who set the new mark with a 14-06 vault.
