I am the track coach at Guntersville High School and I'd like to ask all of our track family to pray for our pole vault kids. These kids were on their way to the Earl Bell camp in Arkansas when the automobile they were riding in hydroplayned and crashed. Unfortunately we lost Kevin Yoder in the accident. Kevin was a great young man and gave vaulting his best along with his races on the track. Also pray for our other two athletes who were in the vehicle, Samantha Thomas and Brian Cornelius. Also the driver Mr. McRae Benefield and Rachael Benefield.
I am so sorry for your communities, and the entire track communities loss. My prayers to those still recovering from this accident.
please let us know if there is a way to honor them
We were at a track meet in Ft. Payne today and heard the sad news. Our entire track family will be praying for the track families in Guntersville. We lost an athlete during track season a few years ago and it was very difficult. I know many of our kids through the years have spoken with these athletes and were definitely affected to hear about some of their own in trouble like this.
As a pole vault parent who has made that same trip for the same reasons it is certainly grabs me by the heart! I am so deeply saddened and touched and can only offer my deepest condolences. Please know there are many of us in the vault community and track community who are thinking and praying about you all.
This is a very tight knit community and we will stand together to support you. Just let us know anything you need.
I am the Head Coach at Fort Payne High School and as a program our heart goes out to the Families that were affected by this tragedy.
