ASU Track and Field Finishes with Strong Results at TSU Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—The Alabama State University men's and women's track and field team made the trip of I-65 to participate in the Tennessee State University Indoor Invitational and came back with three first place finishes and several other top-10 performances.

Shawn Lockhart, Delorean Peek and Christopher Duncan came home with first place finishes. Lockhart won the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.43. Peek finished first in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:52.03 and Duncan's first place finish in the one mile run with a time of 4:33.64.

The men's team saw Lockhart also finish fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.24. ASU took second and third in the 400 meter dash with Jonathan Franklin's second place time being 49.00 and Vincent Butler finishing third with a 49.43 time.

The Hornets took the top three spots in the 800 meter run with Charles Flewellen finishing second (1:57.73) behind Peek and Duncan finishing third (1:58.20). Flewellen also finished behind Duncan in second place (4:34.47) in the one mile run.

Quantavious Lockhart finished fifth (7.83) in the 55 meter hurdles and Ronald Jordan was seventh (8.00).

ASU's 4x400 meter relay team finished second with a time of 3:14.50 and Isiah Golson finished fourth in the high jump with a jump of 1.93m (6-4).

Byron Kearney finished third triple jump with a jump of 13.8 meter (45-3.75).

The women had five second place finishes. Tia Rolle ran the 55 meter dash in 7.12 for her second place finish, while Kesia Derilus was second in the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:08.19. Fola Richardson also had a second place finish in the 55 meter hurdles (8.56).

Shanice Mells had two second place finishes. She was second in the shot put with a throw of 12.96 meters (42-6.25) and in the weight throw with a toss of 16.15 meters (53-0).

The Lady Hornets had Latrice Lee finishing third in the 55 meter dash (7.16) and Todeyah Jones was fourth (7.18). Rolle was fourth in the 200 meter dash (25.29) and Jones was fifth (25.69).

Lutrisha Altidor finished third in the 400 meter dash (57.06) and Lee was eighth with a time of 59.38. ASU also had two top-10 finishes in the 800 meter dash. Two Hornets also finished among the top-10 in the 800 meter dash. Breana Kelly was third (2:19.43) and Soyong Smith was seventh (2:24.10).

Derilus also had a strong distance run in the one mile run with a fourth place finish (5:22.86). Courtney Gooch finished sixth in the 5000 meter runs (20:20.32) and Smith was ninth (20:55.74).

The 55 meter hurdles was another event where the Lady Hornets had three top 10 finishes. Behind Richardson's second place finish was Erynne Byrd's fourth place finish (8.71) and Paris Thompson's ninth place finish (8.87).

ASU's 4x400 meter relay team of Altidor, Brooks, Lee and Tavernier finished third in the event with a time of (3:55.84). Tyrisha Chambers also had a third place finish in the high jump with a jump of 1.62m (5-3.75) and Jahneel Tyrell finished fifth with a jump of 1.52m (5-1.75).

Tavernier and Tyrell had solid performances in the Long Jump with Tavernier finishing third with a jump of 5.66m (18-7) and Tyree finishing ninth with a jump of 5.34m (17-6.25).

The track and field team will next be on the track February 4, when ASU will travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to participate in the Niswonger Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State University.
