JSU Women Fall To Lipscomb, 84-62

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jacksonville State suffered its first setback of the season after Lipscomb topped the Gamecocks, 84-62, at Allen Arena on Saturday night on the LU campus.

JSU falls to 2-1 on the season, while Lipscomb earns it first win of the season (1-2). Saturday's meeting was the first on the hardwood between the two schools.

After trailing 37-30 at the halftime break and trimming the lead to 38-37 on one of Destiny Lane's eight baskets with 15:50 left in the game. After that basket, the Lady Bisons employed its zone defense and gave the Gamecocks fits as they went on a 10-0 run to push the lead out to double figures at 47-37 at the 13:04 mark. JSU would get within seven points on a three-pointer by Lane with 11:53 left on the clock, but LU pushed the lead back out to as many as 21 points before claiming a 22-point win over Jax State.

Lane, a junior from Ashville, Ala., came off the bench to lead JSU in scoring. She matched her career-high in points with 21. Lane poured in that same total against Austin Peay last season. Danielle Vaughn finished with a season-best 12 points in the contest. Brittany Manning added 11 points off the bench. Candice Carmine paced the Gamecocks' 43 rebounds as she pulled down eight. JSU's top-two scorers were held in check as Brittany Wiley was held scoreless after playing just eight minutes. Danielle Beneby hit a three-pointer late in the contest before fouling out.

The Bisons finished the contest shooting 50 percent from the field, including eight treys in the win. Anna Bowers led all scorers with 23 points, three-of-eight from behind the arc. Chelsea McMeans tallied 11 second half points.

Jax State returns home on Tuesday, Nov. 23 to face in-state nemesis Samford for its final home game in the month of November. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. at Pete Matthews Coliseum.
