MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Sophomore
Ericka Stam finished 15th to lead the Jacksonville State women's cross country team to a top-15 finish at the annual Memphis Twilight Classic on Saturday evening. The JSU men placed 24th in the men's 8K event.
Stam, who has paced the Gamecock women in all three meets this season, clocked a time of 18 minutes, 15.17 seconds on the on the 5K layout among 256 competitors. The Keller, Texas-native established a new personal best with her time in the 5K.
Kevyn Tracy finished 34th with a time of 18:45.66. Ioana Citireag crossed the line in 19:59.29 (106th).
Latasha Sturkie (20:04.66, 111th) and
Kailey Jensen (20:31.12, 131st) rounded out the scoring for the Gamecocks, who placed 14th in the team standings.
On the men's side, sophomore
Matt Brick was JSU's top finisher with a mark of 25:53.30 (56th) which is a new season-best in the 8K for the Pell City, Ala.-product.
Nicholas Tirop registered a time of 26:52.05 (120th).
Norman Steigler carded a time of 27:39.91 (160th).
George Kiplagat finished the scoring with a time of 28:27.45.
Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Kentucky claimed the classic title on the men's side, while Stephen F. Austin winning the women's event. EKU's women finished second. JSU's women were second among the four OVC women's teams in the event.
The Gamecocks return to action on Saturday, Oct. 2, taking part in the Loyola University “Sean Earl” Invite in Chicago, Ill.
