Gamecock Volleyball Returns Home For Pair of OVC Matchups

LIVE STATS

JACKSONVILLE – After a nine-match road swing, the Jacksonville State volleyball team will return to Pete Mathews Coliseum for the first time in over three weeks to host a pair of Ohio Valley Conference matches this weekend.

The Gamecocks (6-7, 1-1 OVC) will take on Tennessee State on Friday at 7 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend against Austin Peay on Saturday at 2 p.m. Admission is free to all JSU home volleyball matches.

JSU last played at home on Aug. 31, when it swept Kennesaw State to extend its winning streak at Pete Mathews Coliseum to 13 matches. The Gamecocks opened league play last weekend in Kentucky, where they dropped their OVC opener to preseason favorite Morehead State on Friday before downing Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.

Sophomore Alyx Schulte had a balanced weekend for the Gamecocks, averaging 3.0 kills and 2.88 digs per set in the Gamecocks' opening weekend in OVC play. The Cold Spring, Ky., native had 11 kills was a dig shy of a double-double against Morehead State and picked up a double-double of 13 kills and 14 digs in the win at EKU.

Junior libero Lauren Harkins also had an impressive weekend for the Gamecocks, picking up an average of 6.0 digs per set. The native of Louisville, Ky., opened the weekend with 22 digs at MSU before notching 26 in the win over the Colonels on Saturday. Her 48 digs on the weekend moved Harkins' career total to 1,358, passing former All-American Abbey Breit in third place on the school's career digs list.

Friday will be the 19th meeting between JSU and TSU, making it the second-most played series in the Gamecocks' Division I history behind the Samford rivalry. Jax State holds a 14-4 advantage in the series, including wins in three of the last four meetings. JSU head coach Rick Nold is 12-4 all-time against the Tigers.
